I live in the Anchorage area of Alaska and one of my favorite quick places to go is just north of us in the Mat-Su valley. This valley is surrounded by the mountains and this is where the Knik River and the Matanuska Rivers flow into Cook Inlet. There is a lot of flat river bed and marsh and it creates a great place to see local wildlife and some stunning landscapes. On my recent drive through the area I stopped and explored the shores of the Knik River and found these beauties. These are Beach Peas and their wonderful pink and purple flowers blanketed areas of the shore making it look like a watercolor quilt had been laid out along the shores of the Knik.
