So last week I spent time going over what I was looking forward to as the season changes, what I didn’t expect was that the season was actually going to be changing so soon. In the last week a good portion of the trees around where I live have begun to change their colors. And if that wasn’t enough of a clue the picture below tells me everything I need to know.
Fireweed has this amazing ability to let you know about the changing seasons without ever looking at a calendar. When it begins to bloom in early summer the blooms open from the bottom up. You know you are hitting the end of the season when the very tip of the stem is flowering. The picture below goes one step further and not only shows you that very last bloom but also the plants transformation into its seed bearing stage. When the fireweed turns fluffy white you know your summer is coming to end.
